Pen Pals – Ever Had One Before?

I had sort of a surprise visit from someone I’m sure you’ve heard of but never seen in person (well, some of you have met this fellow). He sound like he’s human but…he’s actually a bear! Know who it is now? haha Yep, I was able to meet a ‘pen pal’ of mine – dabear! He was nice enough to come down to Florida this past weekend and hang out with me and make me speak Spanish! ha I didn’t mind that. Anyway, it was cool to meet him in person and show him a little bit of Jacksonville. And I guess just finally being able to put a name to the face. Thanks again for coming down, dabear!
I do have a real pen pal to whom I write letters. My letters aren’t written in English, though, but rather Spanish! I met my friend Stiv (he’s Iranian but lives in Paris) less than a month before I left Spain after studying abroad there for 4 months. For some reason, we just clicked instantly and made it a point to keep in touch after that. Isn’t it strange that our common language isn’t English? He was the one who suggested we send snail mail to each other and we have been continuing to do so for the last 2 years. I was overjoyed last week when we got to talk on Skype since forever ago! I’m not really hoping this friendship develops into a romantic relationship but I’m keeping an open mind.
The main concern on my mind is just getting back over to Europe again……
Anyway, for the sake of making anyone feel too old, let me ask this question: Have you had a pen pal in the last 10 years?
Did it develop into a real friendship or relationship?
Do tell!

Yep, I have a few pen pals since summer of last year. It’s a wonderful experience and I love getting to know people through letters. We’ve become pretty good friends thankfully.
